Class B CDL Jobs
There are many benefits to obtaining your Class B CDL License, many of which are discussed (rather redudantly) on this simple information-based website.
Your Class B CDL License
Once you obtain your Class B CDL License, you will be able to operate a commercial vehicle larger than 26,001 pounds General Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). You can also operate a towing vehicle so long as the vehicle you are towing does not have a GVWR of greater than 11,000 pounds.
With your Class B CDL License, you will have additional employment prospects. However, you should know up-front that many people with their Class B CDL License will not last more than a couple of years. The job comes with a tremendous level of pressure and expectations.
As a result, many drivers with their License will either burn out or opt for different work.
Benefits of Class B CDL License
While your Class B CDL will entitle you to operate vehicles that meet the Class B CDL License requirements, you will also be able to operate vehicles that fall under the Class C CDL License.
You will not, however, be able to operate multi-vehicle commercial vehicles that would only be covered under a Class A CDL License.
Requirements For Your Class B CDL License
Your Class B CDL License will require that you meet DOT requirements. This will involve a trip to your doctor's office. Generally speaking, you must:
- have 20/40 correctible vision (corrective eyewear is ok)
- blood pressure of 160/100 or lower (prescribed drugs to control blood pressure is ok)
- are not diabetic on injected-insulin, although diet controlled diabetes is ok
- are not using schedule 1 drugs or other drugs that are considered narcotics or are habit-forming.
- blood sugar level below 200.
Your doctor may charge to complete the appropriate paperwork.
